Rose Cottage Shaft:
|
|
This account refers to the second entrance shaft at Rose
Cottage. The shaft was started because water sinking
here was not thought to enter the adjacent dig. When
the mistake was realised, we continued because (a) it was fun and
(b) it would divert water from the main entrance and prevent the
underground dry stone walls being washed out.
Ironically this shaft was on the site of the original dig, which
was abandoned when it reached "solid" rock.
