Brief Description: Caine Hill Shaft
was uncovered in 2003 by Tim Andrews when he was enlarging the
entrance to his drive. He removed part of a dry stone
wall to discover a metal plate, the covering to a stone-walled
shaft.
Tim told Mike Thompson about the discovery one lunchtime in
the New Inn and Mike started a dig in the shaft with the help of
John Walsh, Dudley Herbert, Rich Dolby, Mark Howden and Tony
Audsley.
The early diggers dropped out for various different reasons
and the dig lay fallow until re-started in earnest by Tony
Jarratt in March 2007.
